Following the favorites to receive an invitation to the national championship event, Hamilton Heights Christian (TN), Greenforest Christian (GA), St. Benedict’s Prep (NJ), Greensboro Day (NC), Wesleyan Christian (NC), Pebblebrook (GA), Huntington Prep (WV), West Oaks (FL), and Wasatch Academy (UT), among many others are also all in the running to punch their ticket to the Big Apple.

The City of Palms Classic will be held in a new venue this season, but will have the same loaded field as 8 of the 16 team field comes into the season ranked in our preseason Top 40. This year’s headliners include #5 Montverde Academy (FL), #8 Neumann Goretti (PA), #6 Patrick School (NJ), Brentwood Academy (TN), #39 Hudson Catholic (NJ), #22 Pebblebrook (GA), #16 Memphis East (TN), #32 Norcross (GA), #33 St Anthony (TX), Pace Academy (GA), Jemison (AL) and others. The event surely doesn’t lack of talented prospects, as Alabama-commit Collin Sexton, Duke-commit Wendell Carter Jr, Kentucky-commit Nick Richards, Kentucky-commit Quade Green, RJ Barrett, Alabama-commit John Petty, Kevin Knox, Mohamed Bamba, DeAndre Ayton, Cameron Reddish, Trevon Duval, and Hamidou Diallo are all top-25 prospects that will be featured in a loaded field.

The 33rd Annual Bass Pro Tournament of Champions appears to have its best field ever, bringing in 4 of the top 10 schools in the country. #5 Montverde Academy (FL), #9 Findlay Prep (NV), #3 Sierra Canyon (CA), #7 Greenforest Christian (GA), #16 Memphis East (TN), and Madison Prep Academy (LA) will join local Missouri powers Kickapoo and Republic to make up the 2017 field. Marvin Bagley, UCLA-commit Cody Riley, RJ Barrett, North Carolina-commit Rechon Black, Florida State-commit Ikey Obiagu, PJ Washington, Chandler Lawson, Reggie Chaney, and Xavier-commit Jared Ridder headline a talented group of future high-major talents. This loaded field will be packed with tight games and an electric atmosphere at the most attended high school event in the country year in and year out, drawing crowds of 10,000+ people. This year, the fans won’t be disappointed at this must-see event.

The Chick-Fil-A Classic will feature two strong fields littered with talented schools, highlighted by a top-5 school in each bracket. #34 Providence Day (NC), John Carroll (MD), #30 Westlake (GA), Lafayette County (LA), Cannon (NC), #4 Wheeler (GA), Porter Gaud (SC), and Blythewood (SC) make up the American Division field. The National Division is loaded from top to bottom as #2 La Lumiere (IN), Oldsmar Christian (FL), #26 Greensboro Day (NC), #11 Hamilton Heights (TN), Spartanburg Day (SC), Gray Collegiate (SC), W.J. Keenan (SC), and A.C. Flora (SC) will compose the tougher of the two fields in South Carolina.

The Beach Ball Classic doesn’t showcase any top 10 preseason teams, however the deep and talented field that is wide open and features preseason top 40 teams #24 Imhotep Charter (PA), #40 Bishop Gorman (NV), #30 Westlake (GA), and #31 Christ the King (NY). Alongside those four, Pace Academy (GA), Bishop O’Connell (VA), Evanston Township (IL), Jonesboro (GA), Scott County (KY), Westchester (CA), and McQuaid Jesuit (NY) will all compete in Myrtle Beach, SC. This tough 16-team field will put many talented prospects on display, including Duke-commit Wendell Carter Jr, Georgia Tech-commit Jose Alvarado, Charles O’Bannon Jr, South Carolina-commit David Beatty, Georgia-commit Chuma Okeke, Nate Watson, Nojel Eastern, Kofi Cockburn, and other players to watch.

The Les Schwab Invitational features four preseason top 25 teams, as #3 Sierra Canyon (CA), #20 Garfield (WA), #15 Gonzaga (DC), and #23 Nathan Hale (WA) headline the event, along with a tough group of Oregon powers. This year, the LSI will feature Washington-commit Michael Porter Jr, Washington-commit Jontay Porter and PJ Fuller out of Nathan Hale, Miami-commit Chris Lykes, Prentiss Hubb, and Myles Dread from Gonzaga, Washington-commit Daejon Davis, Jaylen Nowell, and J’Raan Brooks of Garfield, and Marvin Bagley, UCLA-commit Cody Riley, and Arizona State-commit Remy Martin from Sierra Canyon. Although the teams from outside of Oregon are certainly the favorites, don’t sleep on home-state teams to pull off a couple upsets.

The Iolani Classic will feature perennial national powerhouse programs, #1 Oak Hill Academy (VA) and #9 Findlay Prep (NV) who have combined for 15 Dick’s Nationals appearances and have 4 of the 8 championships in national championship event. Both teams begin the season ranked in the top 10 and look primed to build their resume early in Hawaii. Corona del Sol (AZ), De La Salle (CA), Mount Vernon (NY), Dr. Phillips (FL), and Southwind (TN) are other teams from the Contiguous United States joining nine Hawaiian schools at Iolani School. Names to watch at the event this year include Mississippi-commit Devontae Shuler, Kansas-commit Billy Preston, Matt Coleman, Kentucky-commit PJ Washington, Arizona-commit Alex Barcello, and other talented prospects in another tough Iolani Classic field.

The Tarkanian Classic has grown into one of the most interesting tournaments in the country, as this year’s event features six brackets comprised of sixteen teams in each. The featured bracket seems to be the Platinum bracket that features a field that includes #40 Bishop Gorman (NV), Bishop O’Dowd (CA), Cathedral Catholic (CA), #13 Chino Hills (CA), Crossroads (CA), Denver East (CO), #18 Mater Dei (CA), Putnam City West (OK), Salesian (CA), Roosevelt (CA), Valor Christian (CO), Bingham (UT), Desert Pines (NV), Westchester (CA), Windermere (FL), and Clark (NV). The event will feature talented Chino Hills sophomores LaMelo Ball and Onyeka Okongwu, Bishop Gorman elite scorer Charles O’Bannon Jr, elite junior Shareef O’Neal, and many other talented division one prospects.
9 Wheeler Tournament of Champions

The Tournament of Champions held at Wheeler High School this season is a must-see event with 2 brackets comprised of 16 teams each. In the National bracket, the tougher of the two, host #4 Wheeler (GA) will be the headliner, with #22 Pebblebrook (GA), #32 Norcross (GA), Spain Park (AL), Sacred Heart (AL), Scotlandville Magnet (LA), Velma Jackson (MS), Jefferson (NY), Miller Grove (GA), Lincoln (NY), and Oak Ridge (FL) included in the brutal field. In the other bracket, mostly local Georgia schools will be featured in the event as St. Francis (GA), Douglas County (GA), South Cobb (GA), and others are featured along with Doral Academy (FL) and Lakewood (SC). This event is loaded with talent and will showcase elite young talent, including Alabama-commit Collin Sexton, Louisville-commit Darius Perry, Auburn-commit EJ Montgomery, Georgia-commit Rayshaun Hammonds, Mississippi State-commit Nick Weatherspoon, and elite 2018 point guard Javonte Smart.
10 John Wall Invitational

The John Wall Invitational, formerly known as the Glaxosmithkline Invitational, is loaded with elite prospects this year with a number of top-10 players throughout the classes being featured in the loaded event. Arizona-commit DeAndre Ayton, top-10 2017 Kevin Knox, 2019 Balsa Koprivica, 2019 Vernon Carey Jr, 2020 Cashius McNeilly, 2019 Wendell Moore, VCU-commit Lavar Batts Jr, and Old Dominion-commit Michael Hueitt Jr will headline a stacked field in Raleigh, NC. The 16 teams featured in this year’s event include Hillcrest Prep (AZ), Tampa Catholic (FL), University School (FL), Thornlea Secondary School (Can), JM Robinson (NC), Northwood Temple Academy (NC), Cox Mill (NC), Cannon (NC), Broughton (NC), Millbrook (NC), Leesville Road (NC), Garner (NC), Southern Durham (NC), Ravenscroft School (NC), Cary (NC), and Heritage (NC). This tournament may have a new sponsor, but it has the same loaded field as always in the 45th annual Holiday Invitational.

The 2017 Hoophall Classic will feature 17 teams ranked in the preseason top 40 rankings and 2 matchups between top 10 teams on ESPNU, on Monday January 16th. On Monster Monday at the Hoophall the nationally televised matchups start at 11 AM with Nick Richards of #6 Patrick School (NJ) facing off against Wendell Carter Jr and Pace Academy (GA), followed by #1 Oak Hill Academy (VA) facing off against top senior Michael Porter Jr and #23 Nathan Hale (WA). The day is capped off with two matchups between top 10 teams, as #5 Montverde Academy (FL) faces off against #10 Bishop Montgomery (CA) and #2 La Lumiere (IN) takes on #3 Sierra Canyon (CA). While the top two big men in the senior class will face off in a Saturday night showdown on ESPN, with Mohamed Bamba of #12 Westtown (PA) will facing off against DeAndre Ayton and Hillcrest Prep (AZ) at 8 PM. The 10th annual Cancer Research Classic may host the deepest group of schools in event history, with the two day event featuring match-ups between many of the nation’s best teams in Wheeling, WV. The event begins on Friday, January 6th with matchups between Findlay Prep (NV) and First Love Christian (PA) and La Lumiere (IN) against Villa Angela-St. Joseph (OH). The afternoon matchups will feature three top 40 teams as preseason #17 IMG Academy (FL) faces #30 Westlake (GA) and Roselle Catholic (NJ), with #7 Greenforest Christian (GA) taking on Roselle Catholic (NJ) in the nightcap. The best matchups of the event take place on Day 2 however, with #4 Wheeler (GA) taking on #8 Neumann Goretti (PA), #17 IMG Academy (FL) vs #7 Greenforest Christian (GA), #2 La Lumiere (IN) facing #9 Findlay Prep (NV), #21 Dematha Catholic (MD) taking on Roselle Catholic (NJ), and #15 Gonzaga (DC) facing #30 Westlake (GA) in a loaded Saturday slate.

The Flyin the the Hoop Invitational will take place over the same weekend as the top showcase event in the country, however the event held in Dayton, OH still manages to put together one of the best fields in the nation year after year. On day one of the event the nightcap will provide a top 25 matchup between #11 Hamilton Heights (TN) and #17 IMG Academy (FL), while day two will feature three matchups of teams from outside the state of Ohio, as #4 Wheeler (GA) faces Pickerington Central (OH), Gray Collegiate Academy (SC) faces Massillon Jackson (OH), and #38 Huntington Prep (WV) faces Wayne (OH). On Sunday matchups between Pickerington North (OH) and St. Vincent-St. Mary (OH) and Prolific Prep (CA) taking on #38 Huntington Prep (WV). On Monday the event will be capped off with matchups with Prolific Prep (CA) facing Trotwood (OH), and #4 Wheeler taking on Princeton (OH). Dayton, OH is a premier event that features Ohio’s best, with national powers sprinkled into the mix.

The Marshall County Hoopfest will be held on the first three days of December from Thursday to Saturday, and it will feature some of the most talented teams and prospects in the country. Aspire Basketball Academy (AZ) will face off against Sunrise Christian (KS) on the opening night and John Petty and Jemison (AL) in a Friday afternoon clash. Prolific Prep (CA) vs Hamilton Heights (TN) will follow the Friday afternoon clash and event superstar DeAndre Ayton of Hillcrest Prep (AZ) will face Prolific Prep North (Can) in the third game of the day. Friday’s nightcap will be #1 Oak Hill Academy (VA) facing Tennessee Prep (TN). On the final day of play, the matchups to watch include #19 Althoff Catholic (IL) vs #27 Curie (IL), #1 Oak Hill Academy (VA) vs Prolific Prep North (CA), and the final game of the event, which may be the game with the most hype as DeAndre Ayton will have the opportunity to lead Sunrise Christian (AZ) vs #11 Hamilton Heights (TN).

The Slam Dunk to the Beach will take place in Lewes, Delaware featuring a number of signature names from the Northeast matched up in marquee games at the showcase. Day one of the event on Tuesday, January 27th, 2017 will feature #6 Patrick School (NJ) vs St. Raymond’s (NY), Archbishop Wood (PA) vs Roselle Catholic (NJ), and #8 Neumann Goretti (PA) vs Paul VI (VA). Day two will feature games between Our Savior New American (NY) vs Bishop McNamara (MD), Bishop Loughlin (NY) vs Paul VI (VA), Sagemont (FL) vs #25 St. Benedict’s Prep (NJ), and the headlining nightcap, #12 Westtown (PA) vs Gray Collegiate (SC) in a matchup loaded with talented prospects. The last day of the event will be another solid day of games, as Sagemont (FL) takes on Baltimore Poly (MD), Our Savior New American (NY) faces #12 Westtown (PA), and #25 St. Benedict’s Prep (NJ) goes up against Gray Collegiate (SC).

The Holiday Hoopsgiving was electric, featuring multiple preseason top 10 teams falling, a 57 point outburst from Javon Greene, and multiple top-40 matchups. The Holiday Hoopsgiving showcased some of the best talent in the state of Georgia and nationally as elite 2019 PG Ashton Hagans went head-to-head with 2017 Auburn-commit Davion Mitchell, #32 Norcross (GA) upset #7 Greenforest Christian, and Vashon (MO) took down #4 Wheeler (GA) in the biggest upset of the season thus far. #7 Greenforest Christian (GA) rebounded with a big win over #30 Westlake (GA) 59-57 in the final game of the event, while Norcross (GA) went 2-0 against two quality opponents. Overall, the Holiday Hoopsgiving presented itself as an elite showcase event that is continuing to establish itself among the best events in the country. Next year’s Holiday Hoopsgiving already has teams committing and will surely be one of the most highly anticipated events of the season again.

The 2017 Primetime Shootout will feature 3 of the top 6 teams in the preseason rankings in the second weekend of February with #1 Oak Hill Academy (VA) taking on #25 St. Benedict’s Prep (NJ) and Gill St. Bernard’s (NJ), #5 Montverde Academy facing Linden (NJ) and Roselle Catholic (NJ), and #6 Patrick School (NJ) playing against Archbishop Molloy (NY). The 2017 event is littered with talented prospects throughout, and includes Kentucky-commit Nick Richards, Kansas-commit Billy Preston, Syracuse-commit Bourama Sidibe, and elite 2019 prospect RJ Barrett among other big names. Other featured matchups at the event include matchups between #14 St. Anthony (NJ) and Lincoln (NY), Trenton Catholic Academy (NJ) vs #39 Hudson Catholic (NJ), and a solid prep matchup between Montverde Prep (FL) and St. Thomas More (CT). Look for the primetime shootout to turn some heads in New Jersey.

The 2017 Nike Extravaganza features big time national showdowns between some of the nation’s top teams and California’s best. On the first day of action #1 Oak Hill Academy (VA) will face Foothills Christian (CA) and host, #18 Mater Dei (CA) will take on Village Christian (CA). On the second day of action, nine games of play will culminate will three big matchups, as #3 Sierra Canyon (CA) takes on Bishop Gorman (NV), Mater Dei (CA) faces St. Augustine (CA) and in the main event #13 Chino Hills (CA) takes on #1 Oak Hill Academy (VA). This event will feature some of the top prospects in the country, with UCLA-commits Jaylen Hands, LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley, and LaMelo Ball, Kansas-commit Billy Preston, Charles O’Bannon Jr, Mississippi-commit Devontae Shuler, Marvin Bagley III, and Onyeka Okongwu. The most exciting team in high school basketball, Chino Hills (CA) started their season with 3 consecutive 100+ points outings, behind LiAngelo Ball’s 56 points and 72 points in consecutive nights. The 10th annual Nation Hoops Festival features a handful of powerful national matchups along with some of the DMV’s best on display. Day 1 is jam-packed with high-major talent, as local powers St. James (MD) and St. John’s (DC) will start off the big-time games on day one. Following them #7 Greenforest Christian (GA) will face Bishop McNamara (MD), #17 IMG Academy (FL) vs Gray Collegiate (SC), #12 Westtown (PA) vs Putnam Science (CT), #22 Pebblebrook (GA) vs Paul VI (VA), and the nightcap, #21 Dematha Catholic (MD) vs #4 Wheeler (GA). Day 2 will be highlighted by a match-up the showcases North Carolina-commit Jalek Felton against top-10 2017 Hamidou Diallo when Putnam Science (CT) faces Gray Collegiate (SC). The biggest game of the event will feature #15 Gonzaga (DC) facing perennial Chicago power Simeon (IL).
