9 Match-ups to Watch:

First Round Match-ups to Watch:

Jaylen Brown (2015 6′ 7″ SF Wheeler) vs Miles Bridges (2016 6′ 7″ SF Huntington Prep)

Jaylen Brown is HS Hoops Elite #4 player in the 2015 class, leading his Wheeler (GA) team to a Georgia State Title and Dick’s Nationals birth in his dominant season campaign. Brown will go up against top 10 junior Miles Bridges who has the body and athletic ability to make things difficult on Brown. Whoever wins this matchup will most likely see their team winning the matchup between the third and fourth nationally ranked teams.

Daniel Giddens (2015 6′ 11″ C Oak Hill Academy) vs Jessie Govan (2015 6′ 11″ C Wings Academy)

Daniel Giddens is committed to Ohio State and is the #10 prospect in the HS Hoops Elite Top 2015 player rankings, playing for the undefeated Warriors. He will go up against 2015 Georgetown commit, 6′ 11″ Jessie Govan of Wings Academy (NY). This matchup will be interesting to keep an eye on as two high major 2015 commits will do battle in the post. If Govan can force Giddens into early foul trouble Wings Academy may have an opportunity to exploit Oak Hill down low and hang around. This matchup is crucial in deciding the battle that will ensue in the one vs eight matchup.

Howard Washington (2016 6′ 3″ PG Montverde) vs Darius Moore (2015 5′ 11″ PG Greensboro Day)

Darius Moore is a tough senior leader for the North Carolina State Champion, Greensboro Day Bengals. He’s committed to Presbyterian and will be vital in Greensboro Day’s chances of an upset bid against the two time defending champion Montverde Academy. Howard Washington will play an important role on this year’s Montverde team which is much different from a year ago as last year’s squad had D’Angelo Russell running the point guard. Washington will just need to manage the game as he will have Ben Simmons determined to win a third straight Dick’s Nationals.

Therrell Gosier (2015 6′ 7″ PF Blanche Ely) vs Horace Spencer (2015 6′ 8″ PF Findlay Prep)

Gosier is committed to Kentucky to play wide receiver for their football team but has also put up dominant numbers on the basketball court as he leads Blanche Ely (FL) averaging 16.7 points and 8 rebounds per game on the year. Horace Spencer is an Auburn commit who will make an instant impact next year as a freshman in the SEC. Spencer has nearly averaged a double-double on the year as he averages 10.8 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. This will be a matchup of two good rebounding forwards who possess great athleticism.

Derryck Thorton (2015 6′ 2″ PG Findlay Prep) vs Laquincy Rideau (2015 6′ 1″ PG Blanche Ely)

Derryck Thorton is an elite player and possibly the top point guard in the 2016 class and will be the deciding factor on dictating how far Findlay Prep will go in this year’s event. Rideau averages 16.3 points per game on an undefeated Blanche Ely team who captured the Florida State Title. Rideau will match up against one of the top point guards in the country and will have to have a big game to keep Blanche Ely (FL) alive in this win or go home tournament.

Ben Simmons (2015 6′ 9″ SF Montverde Academy) vs Greensboro Day (NC)

Ben Simmons is the best player in high school basketball this year and will be a force to stop in the Dick’s Nationals tournament. Simmons comes into the event averaging 28 points and 11.9 rebounds per game. Greensboro Day is a team known for their stingy defense as they have locked down on top players before and will have to deal with the countries top high school player in the first round of the event. Greensboro Day’s coach has 930 wins in his career and will be sure to have some type of game-plan to stop the dominant Simmons.

Match-ups to watch in Semifinals:

EJ Montgomery (2018 6′ 10″ SF Montverde Academy) vs PJ Washington (2017 6′ 8″ PF Findlay Prep)

If Montverde Academy can take down Greensboro Day and Findlay Prep can knock off undefeated Blanche Ely it will set up a matchup of top youngsters as EJ Montgomery will face off against PJ Washington. Montgomery is a 6′ 10″ SF who can handle the ball and the scary part about his potential is that he is only a freshman. Washington is a Prime Prep (TX) transfer who has fit in nicely at Findlay Prep, he brings an added level of athletic ability to their front line combing with Horace Spencer. The problem for Findlay Prep may however be their lack of true size with two 6′ 8″ post players and not much height on the bench.

Dwayne Bacon (2015 6′ 6″ SG Oak Hill Academy) vs Shembari Phillips (2015 6′ 5″ SG Wheeler)

Dwayne Bacon is going to come into this event with a chip on his shoulder as he will look to lead Oak Hill Academy to an undefeated season and their first ever Dick’s Nationals crown. Bacon is committed to Florida State and has shown his ability to be a prolific scorer throughout the year. Phillips is committed to Tennessee and will need to be a difference maker for a Wheeler team who are lead by senior Jaylen Brown. This would be a matchup of one tremendous athlete who is more than capable of making big plays and an athletic guard who can make explosive plays above the rim.

Daniel Giddens (2015 6′ 11″ PF Oak Hill Academy) v Thomas Bryant (2015 6′ 11″ PF Huntington Prep)

Daniel Giddens vs Thomas Bryant would be a fun matchup to watch with two of the top 25 seniors in the country would match up against each other with a chance to prove who is the better potential prospect at the next level. Both Giddens and Bryant are monster’s on the boards and are both known to block a shot or two along the way as well. Giddens is one of the elite shot blockers in the senior class and Bryant averages a dominant 4.5 blocks per contest.
