2017 Holiday Hoopsgiving Preview

When you think of most of the top high school basketball events in the country, you tend to not pay attention to the cause or the off-the-court impact that some events have on their communities. What makes the Holiday Hoopsgiving event different is tournament director, Chris Williams vision; “At the end of the day we do this for the kids, my wife and I started a non-profit foundation called “Play for Orange” that helps children diagnosed with Leukemia and their families. We donate all the proceeds to our foundation and require all the teams participating to bring gifts to the event that we give to the kids at Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital. Every Saturday morning before the games start us and players participating in the event go over to the hospital to give the gifts to the kids,” said Williams. This year, he explained a slight change in the vision, saying, “This year I think we are going to try something different, our vision is still the same, but we are planning to donate a check to a low income family with a child fighting leukemia.”

On the court, the event has taken off over the past four years and has tournament director, Chris Williams looking for a new venue for the 2018 Holiday Hoopsgiving; “Initially I started the event because I noticed that a lot of the talent from around the Atlanta area was leaving the state to play top competition, so I decided to create an event that could bring the competition to Atlanta, because Atlanta has some of the best talent in the nation. I started this event three years ago and since then it has really blown up into what it is today. We are definitely outgrowing our venue and will be moving the event next year, ideally we would like to hold the 2018 event at Georgia State University or a venue comparable in size.”

This great event will take place on Friday, November 24th and Saturday, November 25th in Atlanta, Georgia. The 4th annual Holiday Hoopsgiving will give us an early look at some of the nations’ elite prospects and the event will feature 4 teams debuting in HS Hoops Elite’s WAY TOO EARLY TOP 10.
