In Hershey tonight at 8 PM hated Catholic League rivals will face off against each other in the Pennsylvania State Championship game. Neumann-Goretti (PA) is coming into the title tilt looking for their 5th state title in the previous six years. Archbishop Carroll (PA) is searching for their first state title since 2009, making their second title game appearance in the previous three years. In their first meeting this season, at a sold out Archbishop Carroll high school the Saints superstar 2017 PG Quade Green calmly hit the game winning three w/ one second left to give Neumann-Goretti the 71-69 win over Carroll.
Archbishop Carroll hasn’t won a State Title since the 2009 season, and coincidentally the last time they beat Neumann-Goretti was in their state title run in that season. Neumann-Goretti has won the previous eleven meetings between the Catholic League rivals and most of them have come in a tightly contested contest. Neumann has had Carroll’s number of late but could this be the year that Archbishop Carroll breaks through to beat Neumann-Goretti, or will the Saints continue their dominance and capture their fifth state in the last six years?
2015 6’ 7” SF Derrick Jones (UNLV): Jones is going to have to come up big for Archbishop Carroll if he wants to capture a state title against a Neumann-Goretti squad that has won the previous 11 meetings against his Patriots. Jones will have to have a big night with 30+ points and 15+ rebounds if he wants to lead his side to it’s first state title since 2009. Jones may be the most explosive dunker in the class of 2015 and he will certainly look to put this on display in his final high school basketball game.
2016 5’ 10” PG Josh Sharkey: Sharkey may be the most important player for Archbishop Carroll in controlling the outcome of this one as he will be the one controlling the tempo and controlling the Carroll offense. If he can limit his turnovers and play solid defense on the opposing Saints guards, Carroll will have a chance to take down the dominant Saints.
2017 6’ 3” SG David Beatty: Beatty is just a sophomore and has developed a nice mid range game to go along with his explosive hops around the basket that have came up big in close games this year. David Beatty having a big game could make the difference in this one as he may be matched up with star Neumann-Goretti sophomore Quade Green.
2017 6’ 8” PF Dhamir Crosby-Roundtree: Crosby Roundtree is the only post player in the starting lineup for either team and this makes him a crucial member of the Saints repeat efforts. Rebounding and rim protection will be the areas most important for Crosby-Roundtree to have a major influence on the result of this game.
2017 5’ 11” PG Quade Green: Green is certainly the next in line at Neumann-Goretti as he has averaged nearly 20 points per game as a sophomore and has proven to be the one the Saints go to in big time moments when they are in need of a key basket. Quade Green is the player in this game most likely to have a big game and lead the Saints back into the winner’s circle, as Green will be eager to win his second state title in just his sophomore year.
2015 6’ 0” PG Lamarr Kimble: The Saints are certainly a better team when their lone senior contributor Kimble is performing at a high level and tonight is Kimble’s chance to plant his name in Neumann-Goretti lore and capture a state title in his senior year. Kimble struggled against Roman Catholic in the Catholic League Title game but will look to rebound from that performance and show he can show up when the lights shine brightest.
